Chris and Kanye

Kanye's new release, Graduation has several collaborations on it.  One that I really like is Homecoming with ColdPlay's Chris Martin.  Chris sounds so…Sting of the Police like…

I wasn't into all the 50 Cent/Kanye hype and wasn't interested in either project.  However, after the first spin of Graduation on the "pod" I quickly realized why Kanye won! This is a really good CD.

One Laptop Per Child

I read about this initiative earlier this year and thought it was so admirable.  This organization has set out to provide  laptop to children around the world, specifically developing nations laptops to help empower learning with the aid of technology that they would otherwise not have.  The laptops were not intended to be sold in the US.  My first thought was "bummer, I want one!"

Due to lack of adoption by foreign governments, One Laptop Per Child has the laptops ready but can't afford to ship them.  To help with shipping cost for a small window of time this November the folks in the US can get a "2fer deal"
For $399, you will be purchasingyou can get two XO laptops—one that will be sent to empower a child to learn in a developing nation, and one for yourself!

Count me in!!! I get to help a child, it's tax deductible and I get one for myself 🙂

Being a total nerd… I actually like the specs (from website):

We are using components from Red Hat's Fedora Core 6 version of the Linux operating system; we are
tracking the main kernel fairly closely.

We will support five programming environments on the laptop: (1) Python, from which we have built
our user interface and our activity model; (2) Javascript for browser-based scripting; (3) Csound, a
programmable music and audio environment; (4) Squeak, a version of Smalltalk embedded into
a media-rich authoring environment; and (5) Logo. We will also provide some support Java and Flash.

Applications will include a web browser built on Xulrunner, the run-time environment used by the
Firefox browser; a simple document viewer based upon Evince; the AbiWord wordprocessor, an
RSS reader, an email client, chat client, VOIP client; a journal a wiki with WYSIWYG editing; a
multimedia authoring and playback environment; a music composition toolkit, graphics toolkits,
games, a shell, and a debugger.

Libraries and plugins used by OLPC include Xul, GTK+, Matchbox, Sugar, Pango, ATK, Cairo,
X Window System, Avahi, and gstreamer.

Cupcake Heaven = Sprinkles Cupcakes

I'm so excited!   The once only local to Beverly Hills, Sprinkles Cupcakes has opened a store in Dallas!!! After much media attention and features on Oprah and the Tyra Banks show – if you didn't know about them, now you do!  T and I stopped in a bit ago, the line was out the door, however it moved incredibly fast.  I bought 6 cupcakes which set me back $19.50.  My choices were:

3 – Red Velvet – Southern style light chocolate cake with cream cheese frosting
1- Vanilla – Madagascar bourbon vanilla cake with creamy vanilla frosting
1 – Orange – fragrant orange – vanilla frosting flecked with zest
1 – Strawberry – pure strawberry cake with sweet strawberry frosting

We've eaten the Red Velvet ones – DELICIOUS!  I took pictures of the three remaining victims.  I also added pictures from the Sprinkles Cupcakes website.
